About

Josh Currier, a proud Peterborough native, has deep roots in the community. Growing up in the South End of Peterborough, he spent his early years both on the ice and off at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Like many local kids, Josh developed a passion for sports, but by the time he was 13, he shifted focus from hockey to lacrosse. Over the next decade, he honed his skills with Peterborough Minor Lacrosse and later played for the Jr. A Peterborough Lakers.

 

In 2013, Josh took a bold step and moved to Virginia Beach, VA, to pursue his NCAA career with the Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins while earning his Bachelor's Degree in Communications. During his time at university, Josh made a name for himself as a DIII athlete, becoming the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's all-time leader in career points and earning All-American honors every year he attended.

Each summer, Josh returned home to play for the Sr. A Peterborough Lakers, helping the team win three Mann Cup Championships. His passion for lacrosse continued to grow, and in 2016, he was selected sixth overall in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) Entry Draft by the Rochester Knighthawks. He has since played for several teams, including the Rochester Knighthawks, Philadelphia Wings, Saskatchewan Rush, and Calgary Roughnecks, alongside his brother, Zach.

 

While his athletic career was thriving, Josh also pursued a hands-on career in plumbing. In January 2018, he began his plumbing apprenticeship, drawn to the trade for its practical nature and the satisfaction of working with his hands. By March 2022, Josh had earned his Journeyperson certification, and shortly after, he founded Laker Plumbing Ltd. to offer top-notch plumbing services to Peterborough and the surrounding areas.

 

When he’s not running his business, Josh enjoys teaching the next generation of tradespeople at Fleming College and Durham College, passing on his knowledge and experience to aspiring plumbers.

 

Outside of work, Josh loves spending quality time with his family, friends, and dog, whether out on the boat, relaxing by the dock, or hitting the links. He’s passionate about golf and can often be found on the course, working on his swing or enjoying a round with friends.
